If the shoe fits…

Here at Elope Niagara, we have seen a wide variety footwear walk up to our little log chapel in Niagara Falls, everything from sleek stilettos to warm, fluffy winter boots. Each bride is different and wants something unique to her personality. Out of the norm wedding footwear has become a much sought after trend for eloping brides to be. Whether your wedding is grand and lavish or simple and quaint, a girl still loves finding her perfect wedding shoes. Finding the ideal shoe is a pivotal and rewarding moment for all occasions in life, but wedding shoes take the cake as far as importance goes.

Still thinking about Carrie’s shoes in the first ‘Sex and the City’ movie. Her blue Manolos really started a coloured shoe trend across the world, much like coloured wedding dresses have. It surely is a way to show off your personality and add in some colour. Some brides choose their shoes to be their ‘something blue’.

Now, where to get these pretty shoes? There are high-end stores such as Holt Renfrew, Nordstrom and Bloomingdales (yes, they ship to Canada), who carry beautiful designer shoes like Jimmy Choo, Prada and Christian Louboutin.

Don’t forget to check out Marshalls and Winners, where a good find is possible and where a designer shoe doesn’t come with a designer price tag. Those on a budget can look at Town Shoes, Steve Madden and Aldo. A good time to shop is just after prom time, where retailers carry a huge selection and then need to liquidate fast.

For something a little more unique, Etsy or eBay is a great way to customize your shoes to your needs and show off your individuality! Or even try your mom or grandma’s closet for some vintage shoes that are timeless or perfectly fitting for your theme. Keep in mind that a theme is not limited to colour. For example, if you have a country theme, think about cowboy boots. A winter theme, think about fuzzy boots. A summer theme, think about flip flops!

So lace up your sneakers and hit the pavement on the hunt for your stunningly creative wedding shoes, whatever you decide will be perfect while you say “I do!”.
